Starting my Comic
Telling a story through comic was always a dream of mine. But, I hesitated:
I wanted to reach a certain skill level
I wanted to flesh out the perfect and complete story
I wanted to become an expert on backgrounds
And the list of excuses go on like that. I have sketches of my various characters with a rough story idea in the back of my head, but never committed them to anything more substantial.
I finally convinced myself that the only way for me to level up is to actually do the thing!
Here’s how I started so far:
I’m using these daily comic sheets. Something about the guidelines and me drawing boxes really keeps me feeling motivated and productive. I also like outlining the boxes for each panel. Makes me feel legit 🤭
Next, I’m inking by hand. Currently copic pens are my goto. I really enjoy this process even though it’s not the cleanest of work. It’s at least very meditative. Once I ink, I leave for a day or two so I can come back with fresh eyes.
Eventually I do have to trace the inking again via Procreate. That’s where the satisfaction comes in! To see the smooth lines and even color gives me that proud moment.
We’ll see how this goes! Hopefully my journey (and my character’s journey) will be an interesting one to watch!
